How to Use SpeakRight

A quick guide to getting the most out of your practice sessions.

🚧 SpeakRight is currently in beta. Some details below may change as the product evolves.

1. Create an Account

Sign up with your email and password, or use "Continue with Google" for one-click access. Once you're in, you'll land on your Dashboard.

2. (Optional) Upload Your Resume

Head to Settings → Resume and upload a text-based PDF. Once uploaded, every new practice session includes questions tailored to your specific background — your past roles, projects, and technologies. Scanned image PDFs can't be parsed, so make sure your file has selectable text.

3. Start a Practice Session

From the Dashboard, pick:

  • A round type — Recruiter Screen, Hiring Manager, Behavioral, or Culture Fit. Each has a different focus and typical duration.
  • A company — choose from the list of supported companies, or click "Any Company" and type in a company name to generate questions tailored to it.

SpeakRight then builds a personalized set of interview questions for that round and company, blending real-world interview context with your resume (if uploaded).

4. Record Your Answer

For each question, you have two options:

  • Start Recording — allow microphone access, then speak your answer out loud. Aim for the suggested duration shown on screen. Recordings must be at least 15 seconds long before they can be analyzed.
  • Skip — move on to the next question without recording, if you want to come back to it later.

Click "Stop & Analyze" when you're done — your answer is transcribed and scored by AI.

5. Review Your Analysis

After analyzing, you'll see:

  • Overall Score plus a breakdown across Clarity, Structure, Relevance, Confidence, and Conciseness.
  • Delivery metrics — your speaking pace (WPM), filler word count, energy level, and pause quality.
  • AI Coach — a model sentence rewritten with ideal delivery. Pro users can listen to it spoken aloud.
  • Coaching Tips, plus a list of strengths and areas to improve.
  • AI Suggested Answer — a full, improved version of your answer using the STAR method where appropriate.

From here, click "Try Again" to re-record the same question, or "Next Question" to move on.

6. Navigate Between Questions

Use the question navigator (the row of numbered circles) above the question card to jump between questions at any time. Questions you've already answered show a checkmark — clicking one shows your saved analysis again, and you can re-record if you'd like a fresh attempt.

7. Finish & Review Your Session

Once you've gone through all questions (answered or skipped), you'll see a session summary with your average score and a breakdown of each question — including any you skipped. Completed sessions also appear under "Continue Practicing" on your Dashboard so you can revisit them later.

8. Free vs. Pro

Free accounts get 4 practice sessions per month (resets on your billing anniversary), with full access to scoring, coaching tips, and suggested answers. Pro ($10/month) adds unlimited sessions and the AI Coach voice playback, which reads the model answer aloud so you can hear ideal delivery. Manage or cancel your plan anytime from Settings → Subscription.

9. Drills

Visit Drills from the top navigation for focused, shorter exercises outside of a full practice session — useful for quick warm-ups before an interview.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to allow microphone access?

Yes — recording your spoken answer is core to how SpeakRight analyzes your delivery (pace, filler words, energy). If you deny microphone access, you can still skip questions, but you won't get an analysis for them.

Why does my recording need to be at least 15 seconds?

Very short recordings don't give the AI enough speech to transcribe and analyze meaningfully, and can cause errors. Aim for at least 15 seconds — ideally closer to the suggested duration for the question.

My questions don't seem tailored to my background — why?

Make sure you've uploaded a text-based PDF resume in Settings → Resume. Questions are regenerated fresh each time you start a new session, using your resume content.

Can I practice for a company that isn't listed?

Yes — on the Dashboard, choose "Any Company", type the company name, pick a round type, and start your session. Questions will be generated specifically for that company.

Can I re-record an answer?

Yes. After seeing your analysis, click "Try Again" to re-record the same question. Your attempt count is tracked, and your most recent attempt is what counts toward your score.

What happens if I skip a question?

Skipped questions are marked as "Skipped" in your session summary and don't count toward your average score. You can go back and answer them later using the question navigator.

Why is the AI Coach voice playback locked?

AI Coach voice playback (hearing the model answer read aloud) is a Pro feature. Free accounts still see the written coaching tips, suggested answer, and all scoring.

How long does analysis take?

Typically 5–15 seconds. Your recording is transcribed, then analyzed by AI — while you wait, you'll see rotating interview tips. If it consistently fails, check your internet connection and try again.

What audio formats are supported?

Recording uses your browser's built-in microphone capture (WebM/Opus). It works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari 14+.

How do I cancel my Pro subscription?

Go to Settings → Subscription → Manage Billing. This opens the Stripe billing portal where you can cancel anytime. You'll keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your sessions, resume, and profile data.
